Palladium Ballroom in Dallas was packed Saturday night for the sold-out Ghostland Observatory show, and was a reminder of last year’s show. Fans donned their most impressive costumes – whether they were overdressed or barely dressed.

Frontman Aaron Behrens came out with his trademark long hair and sunglasses, and immediately the crowd began to dance. Ghostland Observatory is not your typical electro band. They incorporate a lot of funk, sound effects, and other weird sounds to their beats, which makes their concert perfect for Halloween. The light show was intense, integrating many colors and strobe lights. Behrens danced around the stage while his DJ Thomas Turner, wrapped in a cape, dropped wicked beats. It was actually really hard to see past all the lights, but every now and then Behrens and Turner could be seen. At one point, the bass was so heavy that the ceiling above the bar area rattled violently.

The Ghostland Observatory show gained popularity last year when the band played Palladium Ballroom on Halloween to a sold-out show. They are an electro band from Austin and are known for extreme light shows and wild stage presence. However, this year’s concert seemed wilder. During their song “Sad Sad City,” Behrens danced around the stage and the crowd went crazy as they sang along and jumped around.

The most interesting part of the concert was the crowd’s reaction to the light show and music. It was like a big rave. Amid the dancing, costumes were hitting people in the face, but it seemed like no one really cared. During the song “Rich Man,” a fan dressed in a black body suit which covered his face began dancing on the ground with glow sticks. From then it felt almost like a circus.

The Ghostland Observatory concert is becoming an annual Halloween event in Dallas, and we can expect their popularity to grow in DFW.
